The new diving watch: NIVREL Deep Ocean

Last year, NIVREL announced that the production of the popular Deep Sea diving watch will be discontinued. Having been around since 2004, Red Sea, Deep Sea and South Sea have been well-known by watch enthusiasts in Germany and beyond. In 2011, NIVREL will start with a new series of diving watches. True to the motto 'From the Sea to the Ocean', NIVREL announces the new 'Ocean' series of diving watches starting in 2011. The first model to be revealed is called 'Deep Ocean': a 500m diver with a distinctive design and some outstanding extras.

To create a diving watch also means to create an accurate gauge. Acting in the interest of the consumers, the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) provides a statement of requirements for diving watches. The resulting standard guideline DIN 8306 contains 13 rules for diving watches that are aced by the NIVREL Deep Ocean. Therefore, NIVREL pays particular attention to facts such as the water-resistancy as well as the fundamental functions of a timepiece as being a piece of equipment under water.

Concerning the water-resistancy, the maximum pressure a NIVREL Deep Sea can bear is 50 bar. The necessary robustness of the case is reached by using a resistant stainless steel alloy called 316L. The bezel of the NIVREL Deep Ocean serves to measure the period of time under water. Therefore, it is equipped with a rotating mechanism, that can help to mark the start time of the dive. For safety reasons the bezel can only be rotated anti-clockwise. Should the bezel accidentally be rotated during the dive, the displayed diving time will always be shortened and not extended. Therefore the amount of compressed air in the diving tank will be sufficient in any case.

The NIVREL Deep Ocean is powered by a robust automatic movement calibre ETA 2824-2, one of the most popular automatic movements on the planet. It is known for being precise, robust and reliable. NIVREL’s watch makers precisely regulate the movement and integrate it into the product. It provides hours, minutes, a sweep second, and a date with corrector.

The stainless steel strap of the watch is secured by a flip lock deployment buckle as well as a fold-out extension to wear the watch on a diving suit. Additionally, the watch is delivered with a sporty silicone strap, which integrates nicely with the watch case. In order to change the different straps a changing tool is included in the NIVREL Deep Ocean package as well.
